Micachu - Jewellery
Imagine if Bjork, circa Medulla, created a punk record. Throw in a little dubstep and quirky vocals and you get Micachu (Mica Levi), a 21 year old female producer, DJ and MC from the UK. Her debut `Jewellery` (with backing band The Shapes) is produced by Matthew Herbert, which doesn`t hurt.
Experimentation is the name of the game here as Micachu uses anything from toy keyboards, vacuum cleaners, bottles, odd hums and sometimes garbled vocals to create a truly eclectic album. There are very dancable tracks like `Just in Case` (that has a trippy Santagold or M.I.A. feel) and `Goldene Phone", which is one of the more accessable track on the album. Then there are tracks like `Eat your heart` and the album closer `Turn me well` that are more abstract and sometime hard to listen to. Overall the album is fun and quirky, if you are brave enough to listen.
It`s catchy,it`s pop,but it`s also a bit of art. Micachu is very precocious and it remains to be seen what she will do in the future. For now, she is ceratinly making her own way through the musical landscape of today.
